For many years, diesel engines were associated with dirty and polluting trucks and busses. Today, diesel engines are used in all kinds of vehicles – even small, compact passenger cars – and the number of diesel-powered vehicles in the world is growing fast.
And that makes sense: Modern, sophisticated diesel engines are very fuel-efficient and will typically give you 20-25 % more kilometres per litre fuel than petrol engines.
In terms of NOx emission though, they represent a serious challenge.
